About GoFind.Help

Our Mission
GoFind.Help is a direct-service public program operated by the Center for Housing and Poverty Education (CFHPE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about housing insecurity, homelessness, and poverty.
GoFind.Help was created in response to the fragmentation and usability challenges common in social service directories. Many existing tools are overly complex, outdated, or difficult to navigate — particularly for individuals experiencing housing instability or crisis. We prioritize clarity, speed, and ease of use, with an initial focus on the Greater Houston area.
We believe that everyone deserves access to basic necessities like food, shelter, and clothing. Too often, people don't know where to turn when they need help, or they struggle to find accurate, up-to-date information about local services. These barriers disproportionately affect people already under stress, limiting access to help at critical moments.
What We Do
GoFind.Help provides a streamlined, web-based resource discovery experience, including:
- Food Pantries - Places to get free groceries and meals
- Shelters - Emergency and transitional housing options
- Clothing - Organizations providing free clothing
- Social Services - Government and nonprofit assistance programs
- Healthcare - Free and low-cost medical services
The program intentionally avoids unnecessary features that increase cognitive load or exclude users. All resource descriptions use plain language designed for public use.
Who We Serve
GoFind.Help is designed for:
- Individuals experiencing housing instability or homelessness
- Low-income households seeking assistance
- Case workers, outreach teams, and community advocates
- Family members and caregivers seeking help for others
How It Works
Simply type what you're looking for into our search bar. If you share your location, we'll show you the closest resources first, along with directions to get there. No accounts, no forms — just mobile-first access to the help you need.
All information is verified and regularly updated to ensure accuracy. We work directly with local organizations to keep our database current.
Our Approach
As a program of CFHPE, GoFind.Help is guided by the organization's core principles:
- Evidence-Based - Our content is grounded in research, data, and lived experience, reflecting current understanding rather than assumptions or stereotypes
- Accessible - We prioritize clarity, readability, and usability — using plain language, mobile-first design, and removing unnecessary barriers to access
- Human-Centered - We center the dignity and humanity of people experiencing housing insecurity and poverty, avoiding dehumanizing language and emphasizing structural factors rather than individual blame
- Practical - Our resources are designed to be genuinely useful for their intended audiences, whether someone seeking services, a case worker, or a community member
Our Values
- Dignity - We believe in the inherent worth of every person, regardless of housing status or economic circumstances
- Accuracy - We are committed to providing accurate, evidence-based information that reflects the complexity of housing and poverty issues
- Accessibility - Information and resources should be accessible to everyone, regardless of technical ability, education level, or device
- Transparency - We are committed to organizational transparency in our operations, funding, and decision-making
- Privacy - We don't require authentication, collect personal data, or track users
About CFHPE
The Center for Housing and Poverty Education was founded in 2025 out of a recognition that public understanding of homelessness and poverty is often shaped by misconceptions, oversimplifications, and stigma. We believe that accurate information, presented in an accessible way, is essential for addressing these complex social challenges.
In addition to GoFind.Help, CFHPE operates several other public programs:
- Unhomed.info - Educational content about homelessness
- SystemsofPoverty.info - Explanations of systemic factors in poverty
Our work is grounded in the Greater Houston area but designed to be relevant and accessible to broader audiences. Learn more at cfhpe.org.
